Name: Mine Eyes Have Seen - Civil War Guest Speaker
Date: February 10, 2017
Time: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM CST
Event Description:

In Mine Eyes Have Seen,  Dr. Brian Rucker will present some the stories in his new book on the Civil War in the Panhandle. The book is a compilation of personal narratives of various citizens, both military and civilian, who participated in Civil War activity in the Florida panhandle, stretching from Chattahoochee all the way westward to the Pensacola Bay area. Many of these accounts are reminiscences, eyewitness recollections from people who were there firsthand, and who left behind accounts that add details not found in the official military records.

The book is complemented by historic photographs, sketches and maps that help shine light on this tumultuous time in American history, and this work will allow readers to better understand how this conflict impacted West Florida.

Dr. Rucker is a professor of history at Pensacola State College and the University of West Florida. He has written numerous historical works including “The Unionists of West Florida,” “Image and Reality: Tourism in Antebellum Pensacola, “Timothy Twitchell,” “Arcadia,” and “West Florida’s Creek Indian Crisis of 1837” among many others.

The presentation will be Friday, February 10, at 6pm. All the lectures will take place inside the Indian Temple Mound Museum located at 139 Miracle Strip Parkway SE. Lectures are free and open to the public, and seats are on a first come, first serve basis. Doors will open 20 minutes prior to lecture start time.
